The Art of Reconciliation 12-18 May, 2008

The reconciliation exhibition presents 60 creations where backgammon boards have been turned into artistic objects dealing with the meaning of reconciliation as a starting point for the process of understanding and patience towards fellow man. Changing Perspectives by the Artist : Karen Gillerman Harel & Studio MD

Backgammon Road Map
For Israel's 60's Independence Day. The work projects a tapestry of long-shots & close-ups while portraying tradition & modernity, body & sole, black & while, landscapes & lifescapes, and ultimately life itself. The game introduces Karen's personal Road Map which includes family photos and images from Israel and abroad, while presenting images that create a narrative and curiosity.

Karen & Studio MD decided to maintain the actual game and create a further understanding of the Reality and outlook on life. Both sides of the game gained another perspective, while the Checkers is presented by black & white identical images and the Backgammon presented by close-up & long-shot images which creates another game of spotting the detail taken from the whole image. "I believe that Life is all about Timing and Luck, just like in the Backgammon Game" Says Karen. www.backgammonart.com

Passion Unveiled
Photographer: Karen Gillerman Harel
Film photograph, Printed on Canvas 110 x 78 cm

In Karen's Passion Unveiled  images, we can see the use of the veil in a series of four photographs, while using the veil in different forms, from a modest, religious, traditional item to a modern, fashionable and sexual item.

Karen reveals in her images the Passion Unveiled by posing and adding additional elements to the composition, while believing that the less exposed the more passionate it looks and the identity remains unknown.

Karen's work is inspired by The quote:  "All I know is that I know nothing" (Socrates, A Classical Greek Philosopher. 399 BC-496 BC) that leads Karen to believe that by presenting an unknown identity with a passion urging to breakthrough it is open for one's interpretation and their own prejudgment & objectivity. Once you reach the understanding you searched for, you realize you know nothing, and the journey of comprehension has just began.
